Engage a minimum of two (2) artists in main street activations to be eligible for prizes. Have a BIA staff person dedicated to the success of their main street activations, assigned to liaise with STEPS and collaborating artists. Participate in two (2) planning workshops. STEPS will support Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) who meet the criteria listed below. STEPS can also provide the extra support you need to ensure the larger cultural projects you have planned, like community murals, street banners and mixed media installations, move forward in this challenging time. street pole banners/ street pole murals. This is your chance to experiment! Some of the things we can support you in doing include: The focus of this coaching will be on quick DIY oriented creative placemaking methods that will help foster trust and a sense of community among local businesses, residents and artists as part of main street recovery. STEPS will provide free tailored coaching (up to five hours) to help BIAs generate ideas, support logistics planning, connect with artists and other resources to realize their creative visions. Participating BIAs are also eligible for prizes valued at $20,000 to support future placemaking projects. Since the start of the program, STEPS has supported 50+ BIAs and artists in bringing one-of-a-kind public art projects to main streets across Canada. The I HeART Main Street Program began in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support BIAs in responding to difficult circumstances through public art and activating outdoor spaces with the talents of equity-seeking Canadian artists and designers.
